An area shelter contacted CSR for rescue because this sweet girl, Macy, looked about to have babies. A CSR foster got her home and into the CSR whelping box, where Macy sat for days. Worried, the foster got Macy to our vet to see if there were problems with the pregnancy.
Turns out, there were no babies, just a horrible case of HEARTWORMS that had Macy so puffed up she looked pregnant! Macy’s case was so severe that it was touch and go when she began treatment, but she’s doing well now and will be up for adoption soon. Her treatment so far has cost over $600, with more to come. We mention cost only because this is an example of “why we ask” on North Texas Giving Day. We mention Macy’s heartworm case because this terrible mosquito-borne disease is rampant in Texas, but it is avoidable with an easy-to-give monthly heartworm preventative.
